Poodles

Our story…

After our beloved Labrador passed away from liver cancer, we said that we weren’t going to get another dog until there was a poodle we could rescue that met all of our criteria. Luckily we were blessed with a match very quickly and our first poodle, Alice became a part of our family. She was Mary’s heart dog and a fantastic representation of how amazing poodles are. When she was taken from us too early from bloat (if you have a poodle please educate yourself on the early signs of bloat-it kills FAST), we had to find a poodle to fill the holes in our hearts.

A young man from Jake’s church archery group told us about an incredible hunting poodle he had seen that had blown him away. We were able to get in touch with the breeder, Candy Butterfield, from WI. God had his hand in the timing of it all because Candy happened to have a brand new litter of puppies out of her dear Maggie, born on our firstborn’s birthday! Candy selected us to be Maple’s co-owners and we brought home a gorgeous sable poodle puppy.

Maple was an intelligent and easy dog from day 1. We brought her home just a couple of weeks before we welcomed our 5th child, Lena. Having a newborn, working on house renovations, preparing for a move, Maple was no problem to add to the mix-an obviously fantastic puppy!

Cora and Eliza took turns using Maple for 4h, training and showing her in showmanship, agility, obedience and rally. Maple loves all forms of training and activity and excelled with the girls. She also has very high prey drive, with her bloodlines and showed potential in hunting and scent work.

It became time to make a decision about whether we were going to breed Maple. After a conversation with Candy, it was determined that if she passed her OFA exam, she would be a great candidate with her temperament and biddability. Luckily for us, our good friends had an intact male, small standard poodle that we had always absolutely adored. Everything fell nicely into place and we welcomed our first litter in April 2026.
